Stop Letting it Stop You

A post ABOUT writing? Who would have thought right?

I was sitting here working on a story I’ve had kicking around my head and I felt myself stuck on writing the next part.

I knew I had the intro and the main meat of the story, but connecting the two was giving me issues.

I didn’t want to be lazy say “and then it happened the very next day!” but I knew I need SOMETHING to bridge the gap and was spending a lot of time going over ideas I knew wouldn’t work.

So I skipped it.

It’s easy to forget sometimes that writing doesn’t have to be linear. I know I have the main portion of my story and by skipping this road block I can’t figure out at this moment, I can move on to the work I already have figured out.

It sounds simple when you read it, but the urge to have each step of the puzzle figured out before they move on can paralyze progress and lead to “writers block” in a lot of writers.

Don’t be afraid to skip ahead, circle back, shake things up.

The only thing stopping your stories is you.
